Signs the bar is done
A chain that leans one way in the cut, rails that are mushroomed or chipped, a groove you can rock a new chain in, or a nose that grinds when you spin it. Any of these and a fresh loop will wear out fast. Replace the bar and chains together.
Filing between swaps
Five even strokes per cutter with the right round file brings a lightly dulled chain back. Our kit carries 5/32", 3/16" and 7/32" files, a flat file for the depth gauges and a filing guide.
