About this loop

We keep both versions of this chain because both kinds of saw are still out there cutting. Owners of MS271s from 2022 or earlier may have the .063" bar, which takes our 26RS 81. Everyone else with a .050" stamp is in the right place here. Nothing else changes: .325" pitch, 20 inches, 81 links. The full-chisel cutters cut fast in clean timber but carry a kickback warning, so this is a chain for experienced hands. Part 3C081X is German steel, with quenched rivets and chrome-plated cutters that are cold-headed and ground.

  • Fits the post-2023 Stihl MS271 Farm Boss, MS291 and MS261 with a .050" gauge 20-inch bar.
  • Matches Stihl 23RS 81: .325" pitch, 81 drive links, and the thinner gauge Stihl now uses.
  • An MS271 from 2022 or earlier may still have the .063" bar that takes our 26RS 81.
  • Full chisel and not low-kickback, which makes it a chain for trained operators cutting clean wood.
