About this loop

Fifty-five is an odd number that trips people up, since most other 16-inch low-profile chains carry 56. Count yours before ordering, and read the gauge on the bar too, because Stihl makes this length in both .043" and .050". This loop is the thinner one. Semi-chisel cutters are the right call on a homeowner Stihl: they hold an edge through bark and grit and are easy to touch up with a round file. Our 1B4Q55X also cross-references 36100050055 and R55, and it is built from German steel with quenched rivets.

  • Fits Stihl MS170, MS171 and MS180C saws with a 16-inch .043" gauge bar; also sold as the R55 size.
  • Equivalent to Stihl 61PMM3 55 and 36100050055, with 55 drive links, one fewer than common 56-link loops.
  • Stihl uses both .043" and .050" in this length; the .050" version is our 63PM3 55 chain.
